The grooved tokens (coins with grooves) have been designed for mechanical coin validators. Most mechanical coin validators accept any coin of somewhat similar size, which is equivalent to a wide range of acceptance. The exclusive grooves insert a front plate, giving a practical mechanical safety function.

The grooved tokens are tokens with a groove on the straight (front side) and / or on the back (back side). The presence of the grooves gives the grooved tokens a particular side profile that corresponds to that of the front plate of the mechanical coin validator. Only the grooved tokens with the right profile will pass through the front plate.
